November 2018 Superintendent Newsletter
Dear USD #416 Wildcat Family,
Our seasons are definitely changing! I have enjoyed seeing the Fall colors the past few weeks as our seasons have changed outside. I have also enjoyed watching/supporting our school activity groups compete as we end our Fall seasons and head into the winter seasons. As always, our students have performed very well and represented our community with great pride. I am always proud to be their school superintendent! Thanks for your continued support of school activities across our school district. I look forward to the upcoming winter seasons.
Speaking of winter, we know what can occur in the upcoming winter months in Kansas. I strive to make the best decision regarding school closures and safety. Last year, we called school off five days. Sometimes, I believe the media and social media get a little ahead of the game, but rest assured, I will always make the best decision that I feel is right for each inclement weather situation. I know parents want me to inform them as early as possible. Sometimes, it is not possible to make a decision the evening before, as the weather has not moved in at that time. I get up very early and drive the roads, check with my maintenance and transportation staff, and visit with other area superintendents before making a decision. Once a decision is made, you will be notified via Skyward. It will also be on our website and the local television channels.
Over the next few months, you will be seeing/hearing work being completed at the football stadium. We are in need of replacing our current grass field. As we have reviewed costs associated with replacing and maintaining a grass field, it has become apparent that moving to synthetic turf is the more cost effective way to move forward. If all goes well, we will have the new synthetic turf installed by the end of February.
Some of the best occasions occur in our district in November! I hope you are able to take the time to attend. Two of the most notable events are the upcoming musical, “Shrek”, and our Veterans Day Celebrations we have across the district. I hope to see many of you at both of these events!
