LHS Debaters have another Great Season!

On January 20th, eight of the thirteen state-qualified Louisburg Debaters headed to Lyons, Kansas to compete at KSHSAA 4A State Debate Tournament.  After two days of competing in 6 preliminary rounds, the 36 teams in the state with the best records broke to out-rounds, where they were seeded and continued to compete in a single-elimination format.  Among those 36 teams were Louisburg Juniors Isabelle Holtzen and Grayson Anderson, breaking as the 26th seed at the tournament.  Isabelle and Grayson debated against and defeated the 7th, 10th, and 2nd seeded team in the tournament before dropping on a 2-1 split decision in the semi-final round, winning a third place state trophy for the second year in a row!  Isabelle and Grayson want to thank their debate squad, who did extensive research all season long, and especially the 6 other debaters at State (Seniors Nathaniel Mason, McKenzie VanMeerhaeghe, Calvin Cassida, Juniors Janae Kuhlman, Flynn Langner, and Sophomore Brooke Talmage) who helped them prepare for every out-round and scouted for hours to help support them in those final rounds.

Bringing home a state trophy for the second time is not Isabelle and Grayson's only achievement this year. These ladies, when competing as a team, had a 100% win record in the pre-season, and a combined 93% win record when competing with other students. They also, along with McKenzie VanMeerhaeghe and Brooke Talmage went were one of only 4 teams in Frontier League history to go undefeated, bringing home the League title.
