January 2015 Superintendent's Newsletter
Dear USD #416 Wildcat Family,
I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Holiday Season! As we look forward to the 2nd half of the school year, I encourage you to have a conversation with your child about establishing some New Year’s Resolutions for school. Does your child need to spend more time on homework or reading? Does your child need to look at getting into a leadership role or a student activity? Do they need to make amends with a teacher or classmate from last semester? In school, we are lucky in that we get to start over twice a year. Students and teachers get to begin anew in January and in August. I hope everyone is ready for a great
second semester and has developed an individual plan of success. We have a great school district and the support from parents and the community make it possible for us to provide a great education for all students.
During the first few months of the year, you will be hearing more about a special mail ballot to continue our support of our Local Option Budget. Currently, our LOB is at 33% of our General Fund. According to state legislation, we must conduct a mail ballot in order to keep funding at 33%. If we do not do the ballot, or the ballot fails, the LOB would fall to 31% of our General Fund. This would result in a loss of about $220,000 for our district. We will be sending more
information to you and holding a meeting to discuss the importance of this mail ballot. As you know, schools have faced some very difficult times and this money is greatly needed during these tough, economic times. The money in our LOB is used for a variety of budget items, including: salaries for staff, technology, utilities, bus service, and other important needs to help our children receive the best education possible. By voting yes, you are NOT increasing your taxes. In fact, our district’s mill levy went down this year. Voting yes will maintain our current funding with NO tax increase. As I stated, more information will be coming to you in the next few months as we strive to have the mail ballot to you before Spring Break.
Once again, I hope everyone has a Great 2nd Semester and a Wonderful 2015! Thanks for your continued support of our staff, schools, and community!
Happy New Year!
