PROGRESS ON TARGETS
and School Board Resolution
After this presentation on student spring 2012 progress and the revamped accountability system for Kansas that will begin Spring 2013, the Louisburg School Board adopted this RESOLUTION:
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS the Louisburg Unified School District 416 Board of Education recognizes the tremendous accomplishments our students and staff have made through the last ten years under the “No Child Left Behind” requirements; and
WHEREAS these accomplishments resulted in improved academic progress as well as many accolades for the district; and
WHEREAS the current shift to Common Core State Standards requires new teaching and learning strategies; and
WHEREAS the State of Kansas has received a federal waiver to put the focus on multiple measures of student and school progress rather than the narrowly defined accountability system currently associated with our current state assessment process; and
WHEREAS the current Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) which focuses on a single indicator for school success will no longer be in place, as stated in the federal waiver granted to the State of Kansas;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 416, MIAMI COUNTY, KANSAS, AS FOLLOWS:
It is hereby declared to be the intent of the Board of Education of Unified School District No. 416, Miami County, Kansas to support the work of all staff members as they prepare for the implementation of the Common Core State Standards; and
The Board of Education understands that spring 2013 test scores may result in a slight decrease as the focus moves away from this single accountability system to a much richer process for our students and schools.
ADOPTED by the Board of Education of Unified School District No. 416, Miami County, Kansas, the 12th day of November, 2012.
