Accelerated Reader Requirements for 2nd Semester (01/06/09)
The following will be required of the 8th grade for the second semester:
Dates: 3rd Quarter: January 6 – March 13 (All AR points and tests must be taken on or before March 12.) 4th Quarter: March 23 -- May 22 (All AR points and test must be taken on or before May 15.)
Minimum Points: Point goals will be set for each student on an individual basis determined by student reading test scores. Minimum number of required points for each quarter will be 14. Point totals for the quarter begin at 0 points, and the students will be expected to reach the individual goals they have set. Each student must score 80% on a book test to receive credit for the book. Each student must take two (2) vocabulary tests during the quarter. If more than two tests are taken, the two highest scores will be counted.
Maximum Extra Credit Points: A maximum of 10 extra credit points will be allowed. These are points recorded above the required total.
Reading Level: The reading level of the books the students choose must be within the ZPD Levels on the STAR Test. In some cases, students may want to read books above or below the ZPD level. Exceptions will be granted by Mr. Dresslar on an individual basis.NO books from last year will be accepted.
Requirements for AR party at semester: Students must have a total of 6 150% of their individual semester goal (combing third and fourth quarter point totals) and an average of 85% or better on the book tests in order to be eligible to participate in the AR party at the conclusion of the second semester.
Top Readers: The top three
readers for the year will win prizes at the Rewards Party.
The top three readers will be determined by combining points
and test scores.
