New Reading Program
Parents and students:
Say good-bye to Reading Counts and hello to Accelerated Reader!
In the fall of ‘08 our elementary and middle schools are switching the program we use for our computerized quizzes on books from Reading Counts to Accelerated Reader. The web-based Enterprise version of Accelerated Reader that we will be using has over 120,000 quizzes, so many more of our library books will have quizzes.
We do want to give a heads-up to parents who guide their students’ summer reading. In Accelerated Reader generally there is only one try allowed to pass the quiz. (Reading Counts had a bank of questions to create multiple quizzes, so up to 3 tries were allowed.) If students read books in June and can’t take the quiz until school starts in August, they are likely to forget details and not pass the quiz UNLESS they take a few notes about characters, plot, etc. while they are reading.
