Louisburg's Kansas Teacher of the Year Candidates
We are very proud of the district's two candidates who represented the Louisburg - USD 416 district during the September 20, 2009, Sunday Kansas Region 2 Teacher of the Year Awards Banquet - 2010 - Elementary: Aaron Webb and Secondary: Leigh Guetterman.
AARON WEBB has taught physical education at Broadmoor Elementary School in Louisburg for his entire twenty-nine year career as an educator. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Secondary Educational Studies in Health, Physical Education and Biology Education from Bethany College. Aaron shares, "It should be the goal of parents, community, and the education system to encourage our children to not only succeed in life socially and economically, but also be a good citizen who is empathetic to those around them. My aim is to challenge students with activities which will require persistence, patience, the willingness to be instructed, and the ability to work with others; traits that will benefit them for a lifetime."
ELIZABETH LEIGH GUETTERMAN has taught 7th grade language arts for five years at Louisburg Middle School. Leigh received both a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Baker University. Leigh believes her greatest contribution to her students is what her parents wanted for her to strive to be the best that she could be. She explains, "The bar I set for my students is just right above their comfort zone. They must work in order to achieve success, in and out of the classroom. I believe my greatest accomplishment in education is the connection that I make with my students. The realization that I cannot connect with all 145 of them is difficult, but if I can connect each day with just one student, then perhaps I have made a difference."
Candidates are nominated in the spring and then serve the following year. For a list of current and past KTOY educators, check out this link: List of Louisburg KTOY Educators
